Wincor World 2014: A view into the future of IT in retail and banking

Innovative hardware, software and services concepts that banks and retailers can use for efficient, customer-friendly business operations, plus ideas for the banks and retail stores of tomorrow: this is the focus of Wincor World at the A2 Forum in Rheda-Wiedenbrück. There, Wincor Nixdorf and its 46 partner exhibitors will present the IT solutions of the future across approximately 500 exhibits.  And with its 50 presentations and workshops, the conference program at Wincor World also contributes to making this event an industry highlight for IT experts and managers at banks and retail companies from more than 90 countries around the world.
This year's trade fair mirrors the evolution of Wincor Nixdorf's orientation: Many of the solutions presented there feature software as the innovation driver. "Today's consumers do their business via smart phone, tablet or the Internet as well as in bricks-and-mortar bank branches and stores. Banks and retailers are currently changing the way they do business to accommodate this trend. We support them in their efforts and enable new processes, especially through innovative software," said Eckard Heidloff, President and CEO of Wincor Nixdorf, at the opening of Wincor World.
At the beginning of the new fiscal year in October 2013, Wincor Nixdorf bundled its cashless and mobile transaction processing know-how in a new business unit – Cashless Payment Solutions. The result was a new portfolio for processing cashless and mobile transactions. At Wincor World, the company is introducing and showcasing a marketplace for Android-based apps that retailers can use to manage and enhance their sales and payment processes. The software runs on a design-oriented payment tablet. "By adding this growth topic to our portfolio we can offer banks and retailers even more comprehensive support," explains Heidloff.
Banks integrate new technologies and enhance the customer experience
At Wincor World, Wincor Nixdorf is showing how banks can enhance the customer experience with new service concepts. The range of self-service options can be expanded strongly when staff use video or tablet computers to help clients with certain transactions. And to make self-service systems even more intuitive to use, in the future bank customers will be able to design their own user interfaces using the touch and swipe technology they already know from tablet computers and smart phones. Visitors to Wincor World can try this out on an ATM. They can also discover how to withdraw cash at a new Smart ATM using their mobile telephones and a special mobile banking app.
Other banking exhibits at Wincor World include two examples of branch design as an answer to the question of the design of the bank branch of the future. Here, it must be possible to implement self-service solutions quickly and stably and operate them cost-efficiently. Finally, Wincor Nixdorf will show how ATM operators can outsource responsibility for the performance of their networks by commissioning complete IT services.
 Flexible checkout concepts for retail
Wincor World will see the premiere of the newest member of Wincor Nixdorf's BEETLE family of POS systems: the BEETLE /iPOS. With its all-in-one design, multitouch interface and powerful yet energy-saving technology, this system opens a new chapter in the 40-year success story of POS technology at Wincor Nixdorf.  The latest software version – TP.net 5.5 – demonstrates the high performance of state-of-the-art store software that retailers can use for uniform control across all their delivery channels. Another European premiere is the presentation of the new tablet solution BEETLE mobile POS. It can be used as a fully functional stationary checkout, for mobile payments, to assist customers at the shelf or merchandise display, or even for administrative tasks and inventorying.
The need to grow more strongly in international and global markets through store expansion presents retail companies with a number of challenges. Wincor Nixdorf demonstrates how it can support retail companies across the entire lifecycle of a retail store: from its opening – whether in an existing or new market – to its operation and renovation or upgrade, and all the way to its decommissioning, Wincor Nixdorf can provide consulting, project management and the installation of IT systems and infrastructures for retail stores of any format.
