FEYCO: a fun training experience

 

“Education,” said Nietzsche, “is life according to great minds, with the aim of achieving great objectives.” That’s certainly the FEYCO view: the company has set itself the clear goal of offering an attractive apprentice training product to give seven young people the best of starts to their professional career. 

 

“We have a great team,” says Cecilie Schlegel, who is a second-year apprentice lab technician. “My job has a lot of variety, too; and I always manage to maintain a good balance between work and school.”

 

All FEYCO’s apprentices are offered sizeable support from experienced work colleagues to help them achieve their training goals. And those colleagues are always there for them with assistance and advice throughout their apprenticeship years.

 

The seven apprentices are spread throughout FEYCO’s operations. Two (one in Year 1, one in Year 2) are working in the coatings lab, one (in his first year) is serving in logistics, and four (in their first, second and third years) are undergoing commercial apprenticeship training.

 

As well as pursuing their specific learning goals, FEYCO’s apprentices are offered numerous more general training courses and practical deployments. They also attend a monthly ‘Apprentice Pow-Wow’ with vocational trainer Petra John at which a host of company projects, events and operational issues are explained and discussed. And before their final exams, they have ample opportunity to prepare, as FEYCO wants them to do as well as they possibly can.     

 

Needless to say, there’s time for the social side, too, like the annual apprentice excursion. This year’s, in April, took them all to the Europa Park in Rust. The weather was fabulous, and our trainees spent a well-earned day out exploring the park’s various attractions and getting to know each other a lot better, too.

Cecile found this option particularly useful – so much so that she now spends some time at the vocational school raising the profile of the apprenticeship to become a coatings lab technician. And she attends various events – such as the recent Standup Paddle Competition in Rorschach and the Swiss Skills show in Bern – to help publicize this new apprentice course. 

 

FEYCO is also proud to report that all its apprentices to date have been offered permanent employment with the company after completing their course. And this has given them all an invaluable opportunity to gain further work experience and thereby further raise their prospects on the employment market.
